Westbrook Republicans Win Big in Municipal Election
Twenty republican candidates faced off against nine democrats and, with only one exception, out-polled their opponents.

For First Selectman Noel Bishop and Selectman John Hall
the outcome was never in question. Running unopposed, Bishop pulled in 72% of the ballots cast for a total of 1043. Republican Board of Selectmen member John Hall outpolled his democrat counterpart by a margin of 756 - 586; both will be seated for another two year term.

Leading the way with the highest vote totals were Tax Collector Kimberly Bratz and Treasurer Jane Butterworth. Both women were running unopposed. Bratz showed that even tax collectors can be popular by winning almost 1100 votes; fully 75% of the maximum possible.

Republican George Pytlik retained his position on the Board of Finance as did democrat Richard Westbrook. Republican Keith Maynard will become the newest member of the Board of Finance. Maynard led his opponent by over 200 votes winning 775 to 565 over democrat Menno Marringa.

Both Republican candidates for the Board of Education led their opponents. Dr. Kim Walker and Michelle Palumbo easily defeated two democrats and will both be seated for six year terms. Incumbent democrat Marti White retained her seat by coming in third.
Republican Michelle Neri ran unopposed for her seat on the Board of Assessment Appeals and pulled in a respectable 1028 votes.
Newly elected Eric Reeve will join two other republicans on the Planning Commission and incumbent republican John Boehme successfully defended his seat on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

The republican party swept both available seats on the Zoning Commission and now hold a majority on that board with newly elected members Dwayne Xenelis and Lee Archer.
Republicans also swept all of the available seats on the Library Board. Gina Fifield, Rosemary Einsmann, Norman Roman and Katherine Bishop will add to the current republican majority on that Board.
